Nationality: American Type : Thriller & page turner novels Known characters: largely known for his series about American psychologist Alex Cross. He also writes the Michael Bennett, Women’s Murder Club, Maximum Ride, Daniel X, and Witch & Wizard series, as well as many stand-alone thrillers, nonfiction and romance novels.
After Patterson retired from advertising in 1996, he devoted his time to writing. The novels featuring his character Alex Cross are his most popular and the top-selling U.S. detective series in the past ten years. Patterson has written 71 novels in 33 years. He has had 19 consecutive #1 New York Times bestselling novels, and holds The New York Times record for most bestselling hardcover fiction titles by a single author, a total of 63, which is also a Guinness World Record. In recent years his novels have sold more copies than those of Stephen King, John Grisham and Dan Brown combined. Patterson works with a variety of co-authors, such as Maxine Paetro, Liza Marklund , Micheal Ledwidge and Howard Roughan
Thrill is James Patterson’s most powerful weapon. In fact, he has been instrumental in starting James Patterson PageTurner awards in 2005 to reward those that find original and effective ways to spread the excitement of books and reading. His books are pageturners. You will have up to 150 chapters in each of his books with 2 pages per chapter and there!! it totals up to 300 pages. Shorter chapters makes the reader feels that he going through it really quick (at least I feel that way :)). His main plots and sub plots are a part of every page and no sooner than you have finished the first page you would want to go the next one.
On his website jamespatterson.com this is how they describe him and should i say what an apt description to such a prolific author ”
In January, 2010, The New York Times Magazinefeatured James Patterson on its cover and hailed him as having “transformed book publishing.” Timemagazine named him “The Man Who Can’t Miss,” and he is a two-time Children’s Choice Book Award “Author of the Year” nominee, a designation decided on by more than 15,000 children and teen readers.
It is very obvious that he cannot sell 250 million copies around the world without building thrill, suspense, ambiguity, adversity and fear, happiness in the mind of readers of his books. And Boy o boy he does that really well. He is not a writer of suspense novels but more related to the CSI ( crime scene investigation you dum dum !!). He builds upon the crime scene and every time the approach of the cop investigating the case is really interesting. He uses the most recent and sometimes unheard of technology to interrogate criminals and explain crime scenes. Use of advance technology and methods can be seen in his ‘private’ series where the private detective agency uses the most latest gadgets to track down killers. My personal favorite is Micheal Bennett and my first James Patterson book was ‘ Worst case’ – a very intriguing tale of why the killer wants to kids of neo rich parents in NY. And how does Micheal Bennett – the cop with 10 kids of his own solves this deadly case.
